2 stars North Sea Oil was a most unusual single off Stormwatch. I mean it is an OK tune but not even remotely commercial. There were a few bands around at the time when single material was for obvious reasons very scarce and Jethro Tull certainly fell into that category. The song is the opening track off the album, politically a good reference point especially with the UK's investment in offshore drilling but not commercially viable as a single especially when you are competing with the likes of Spandau Ballet or Duran Duran. Anyway I would still rather go for North Sea Oil but much preferred when listening to Stormwatch in LP format not as the 45'. " Elegy", the closing track off the album fills the flip side.
