PROG REVIEWER
4 stars Landing on Titan seems to me like a companion piece for Sleepers at the Edge of Time, although this album is a great improvement in comparison. Like Sleepers at the Edge of Time, this album runs long at just under 70 minutes, but much more is happening here. Landing on Titan has a steady progression and quite a few electronic elements tossed in that brings this album into the forefront of sound, rather than being background noise. Of course, like most Phrozenlight albums, this album is characterized by a slowly evolving airy/windy drone, but the soft and mellow synth lines that float across the soundscape are much more prominent and interesting than on earlier releases. Also utilized are the standard prog electronic resonances and otherworldly sonorities that temporarily break the emptiness of the cosmic atmosphere, but the best part of this album would be the tension/release qualities; this single track builds up spacey tension for about 10 minutes at a time before it "pops" and sends another planetary resonance through the soundscape, only to build back up and repeat throughout the duration of the track. There really isn't any other form of progression in the structure, but I didn't even notice that until I started analyzing the piece completely. Fortunately, this 70-minute epic is full and spacey to the point where it is interesting enough to stay in the forefront of the listener's attention. Highly recommended piece of cosmic ambient drones.
