Songs Of The Exile have been around for a few years now, and "Reasons" is their fifth release in total since their 1993 debut.

And on this massive production, clocking in at 78 minutes, they serve us a peculiar mix of art rock and progressive metal; in the lighter moments coming across as a blend of Rush and 90's Manic Street Preachers and at the heaviest and most aggressive acts like Fates Warning comes to mind - as well as the aforementioned Canadian power trio.

The compositions are relatively straight forward, a set number of themes are explored and revisited at least once; with some instrumental soloing segments as the only exceptions to this set up.

At best pretty intriguing stuff too - the band are skilled in making intriguing contrasts; and just as good in creating "less is more" segments as the more majestic, richly flavoured soundscapes. Some weak efforts, but certainly worth investigating for those who enjoy art rock and prog metal.
