PROG REVIEWER
5 stars The Marillion Weekend conventions are a great source of unusual live sets from the band and always have been, but the 2011 weekend came up with something really special on Saturday Night: the band running through a set of songs in alphabetical order, from A to Z! The band are clearly in a playful, cheeky mood this evening, because they do cheat a few times, though in perfectly appropriate and interesting ways each time - "I" stands in for the first intermission (it's a 25 song set, of course they needed multiple intermissions), X turns out to be a cover version of XTC's Senses Working Overtime with Dave Gregory (former star guitarist of XTC) guesting, and Z is Zeparated out - a crazy version of Separated Out from Anoraknophobia, with selected segments of Led Zeppelin classic songs slipped in here and there to spice things up.

The ambience of this live album is great, with both Steve Hogarth and Pete Trewavas trading banter with the crowd and a superb atmosphere over all. What's particularly special is the rendition of the opening movements of Jigsaw partway through - not only are the crowd able to sing all the lyrics without any help from H whatsoever, but the transition into King works far better than it really should have. (The band repeat the trick of getting a Fish-era song to segue seamlessly with an H-era track in the transition from Pseudo Silk Kimono to Quartz.) With an absolutely epic running time - this is possibly the longest Marillion show ever released on disc - A-Z is in the front rank of H-era live albums.
