2 stars This Tangerine Dream: Towards The Evening Star (Remixed By The ORB, 1997 ) EP includes their original version & The ORBīs remix, and thatīs it.

The ORB has been a mutable personnel, project band initiated by Alex Paterson & Jimmy Cauty in 1988, since then and after countless members appearances and disappearances only Paterson remains up to today and a quiet sized discography behind of own and others remixed works.

This time The Orb remixes a Tangerine Dream composition with their particular electronic lo-fi / high tech engineering and transfigure the composition the way they usually do, by cutting it up and gluing the sections they find most interesting and avoiding the originalīs main riffs and hooks thus enhancing the hidden potential of otherwise less notable sections.

Inevitably the clear contrast between both versions puts them face to face with each other, therefore, I who rarely enjoy cliched Latin rhythms, which TDīs song has infusions of, alongside the cheesy melodic structures they were infected with on their very long musical journey and their takes on Deep Forest and JM Jarre and bits of their personal sound (buried deep, but still there), will choose the more syncopated, more interesting and less predictable The ORBīs remix.

For collectors of both bands and some other electronic music curious cat.
