HEY HEY RISE UP (FEAT. ANDRIY KHLYVNYUK)

It's an anthem written in 1914 and probably everybody knows that Boombox has been the PF support band for the Ukrainian gigs and how the video posted by the Boombox lead singer Andriy Khlyvnyuk went viral: having volunteered to join the Ukrainian army against the Russian invaders, he sang it "a capella" in a street of Kiyv.

Gilmour has a Ukrainian relative and agreed with Nick Mason about making a Pink Floyd release of it, also in order to collect funds to support Ukraine.

This is the story. Unfortunately, as I said, World music is not what Gilmour is famous for, so adding some Pink Floyd flavor to something that sounds very "local" didn't work very well.

The vocal performace of Khlyvnyuk is great, and the Pink Floyd work, taken alone is great as well, but they don't work together. What makes it a worth listen is the intensity and the dramaticity of the song, then a Gilmour's solo is never wasted time.

Despite the result, I like the idea and I appreciate the spirit. In the end, the song isn't too bad and the incomes are for a cause (if you consider it a right one).

Nice to say, Roger Waters expressed filo-russian positions in an interview. Not in favor of the war, of course, but in favor of giving Crimea back to Russia. For who is interested, the full interview can be found on youtube.

Not relevant for the review, but I'm more with Gilmour this time.
