AS THEY CAME THEY SLIGHTLY DISAPPEARED (EP)

"As they came they slightly disappeared" was the first sign of life regarding the german newcomer band THE AMBER LIGHT. Released in 2002 the EP showed imposingly what there was yet to come: doleful and spherical art rock with influences by Pink Floyd, Radiohead and Talk Talk.

The title track As they came they slightly disappeared is an experimental, exclusively electronic sound collage which could make you think of experimantal germans like Tangerine Dream or Klaus Schulze. But yet the second song shows a completely different kind of style: Calling on the dogs connects a funky rythm section with nice rock grooves and a nice guitar solo, one of my favorite solos. Waves of memories begins with acoustic guitar and shows, besides many other songs, the mellow and melancholic side of the band. I really like the way the song changes after the first half. Curved Sphere is definitely one of my favorite songs in general. 13 minutes of melodic, Pink Floyd influenced retro prog. Not to forget the superb keyboard playing featured throughout the song. Louis Gabbiani is a great singer, he has such a great voice...it can cause goose bumps here and there, stunning.

A great EP. Regarding "Goodbye to Dusk Farewell to Dawn" you can say that THE AMBER LIGHT maintained the level they reached with this release. A promising band, highly recommended!

First song of their first EP I've to say cannot hit my attraction so much. It's quite a strange, spacy electronic piece in the vein of some Krautrock bands. But fortunately Calling on the dogs is something completely different, awesome keyboards with a full symphonic rock sound combined with great vocals and rhythm section. Really fantastic song! Waves of memories is starting in an acoustic vein and as well a very nice one. The four guys of The Amber Light are showing here on their very first official record really already their full talents! And then the highlight Curved sphere with almost 13 minutes of timing. Once again Louis Gabbiani with his virtuoso keyboard playing and his great vocals. This guy is really a big hope for the future of Prog, but not to forget as well the fantastic effort of Rabin Dasgupta on bass, Jan Sydow on guitars and Peter Ederer on drums.

Their first EP is certainly an excellent debut, almost half an hour of great prog. Get this one together with "Stranger & Strangers" and you will have a second fantastic album of this young talented band. Definitively worth 4 stars!

Awesome beginning!!!Gonna discover some more from them! This is very good Psychedelic/Space rock in Pink Floyd 73-77 vein,probably,the best I heard in last 2-3 years!!!Highly recommended for all prog lovers - the magic of these 3 songs (and one noisy intro) will not leave anyone unimpressed!

If your as big a fan of this band as I am this Ep is a must have. None of these four songs show up on their full length album, so you get over 30 minutes of great music.

"As They Came They Slightly Disappeared" is the shortest track at 4:20 and it's pure psychedelic music. The spacey waves drift in and out until the final minute when it builds to a climax. "Calling On The Dogs" has a good beat with crisp drumming. Spacey synths are in the background as vocals arrive 2 minutes in. A beautiful guitar solo goes on and on as drums pound away. Piano melodies end it. Nice.

"Waves Of Memories" opens with acoustic guitar melodies with vocals joining in after a minute. The lyrics really bring images to my mind. 3 1/2 minutes we get a full sound for about 30 seconds until it reverts back to the acoustic guitar, synths and light drums. Another spacey soundscape. "Curved Sphere" is almost 13 minutes long. Keys and synths start us off before vocals,guitar and drums come in. A nice guitar solo 3 minutes in with piano and synths as well. The tempo and moods continue to change. Strong vocals come in. PINK FLOYD-like guitar and synths show their influences well after 8 minutes. Vocals return after 10 minutes.

This Ep is satisfying enough to search for, and with 30 minutes of music it's worth the money.
