Kaula Spanda picture
Kaula Spanda biography
KAULA SPANDA is a quartet acting from Moscow, currently with Rusty (drums), Gela (guitar), Arseny (synthesizer) and Bassivny (bass) aboard. Since using different names beforehand they eventually settled on the title that can be translated from Sanskrit as meaning 'unifying vibrations of the universe' but also 'band music', and everything in between!

The members firstly met at the immigration center outside Moscow in Winter 2010, but went to pursue different goals in life. Their paths crossed once again in 2015 and they decided to form a band that wouldn't play chords and melodies but rather improvised adventures in sound. In November 2016 KAULA SPANDA released its debut album 'Kau'. Bands similar in style: Hundos, Master Musicians Of Bukkake.

Kaula Spanda Psychedelic/Space Rock

— First review of this album —
2 stars This, up to now, only album of the Russian band Kaula is an instrumental psychedelic set of five tracks with an average duration of about 10 minutes each. There's nothing really innovative or new here. It's well played, the production is at a good level, but all the tracks sound as "already listened".

It's the kind of instrumentals typical of bands like OZRIC TENTACLES, QUANTUM FANTAY (without reggae) and also the Dutch 35007, which is effectively the first band that I had in mind when I listened to this for the first time.

So it's not bad, but it's all too identical to itself, so that in the end it results to be a bit boring. I can't say much about the tracks. All have the same tempo and the same kind of instrumentation. I don't even remember on which track(s) the guest saxophonist plays on, as my attention fell behind a reasonable level.

I'm not reversing my thumb to the band. I think that this album is immature but promising. I don't know if the band will release anything else, as this was released in 2016 and hasn't had any followup in the following three years.

In case, I'll be happy to give them another try, but I can't suggest this album to anybody who is not a big fan of the mentioned bands.

Thanks to rivertree for the artist addition.
