Saga biography
Formed December 31, 1973 in Stockholm

SAGA was a Swedish psychedelic progressive rock band. Among the musicians are Christer STÅLBRANDT, Sylvia OLIN (both known from the band November), Christer EKLUND (who later took part in albums A Passenger To Paramaribo, Monteux Boogie, JTB by Jukka TOLONEN and Airborne by COSTE APETREA), Bjorn ISFALT, Sten DANIELSSON, Kenny BÜLOW, Mats NORREFALK.

SAGA released one self-titled album in 1974 which is characterized by psychedelic overtones mixed with traditional folk melodies. Tracks are diverse with influences from classic psychedelic rock, blues, jazz and Scandinavian folk. There are also some experimental passages. With slow, melancholic fragments, dramatic vocals and psychedelic aura their 1974 album is very diverse. Heavy acid guitar, inventive use of saxophone and cello make their sound more adventurous.

After a long, over 30-year hiatus, a couple of their other recordings have been released on Mellotronen label. Artists similar to SAGA are NOVEMBER, LIFE, ASOKA, RAGNARÖK and TRETTIOÅRIGA KRIGET. SAGA should appeal to fans of nordic atmosphere, growing psychedelic music and rich arranged rock with big dose of nostalgia.
