Heavy rock or very nervous prog metal... Prog metal or prog metal? No reminiscences, it's a change for once.... Well, a bit of Mastodon for this brutal sound that felt good about fifteen years ago.. In short, it's Strong but it's Complex..... it's QUANTUM! Well, two regular guests, Richard Henshall and Tomas McLean playing with HAKEN ... and that's when I tell myself that there's a bit of them in this new group. In short, good heavy solos with sharp riffs, beautiful tenacious melodies and escapades on the jazzy territory prod jazzy influences of MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA just that, so also a bit of GENTLE GIANT for the colorful sound... colorful but damn creative. It's simple, two tracks to set the place on fire, test the musical power with Richard as a guest who has fun releasing the lava solo, an 'On The Verge' which alternates wild riff and acoustic-melodic passage from the 60s then the sound of a TOKYO BLADE which would have continued to progress and then 'Down' goes on a latent prog post rock space which contrasts with jazzy piano layers in the background, which keeps the ear on alert with the final trumpet.. 'Moths' sounds more alternative, Hakenian again, the trumpet returns. 'Abstract' is indescribable, crazy heavy metal like 'Pulp Fiction', an experimental Mr BUNGLE, an UNEXPECT with a big sound in the riff and a crazy cinematic voiceover; enough to ask the question of the orientation of the said group. 'Dots' to be taken as an acoustic-classical nursery rhyme, resting the ear before attacking again on Le' Down p2' fusion: a pregnant riff, a progressive research recalling the hardcore sound of the 90s, the experimental post grunge one, the one where we found more prog ingenuity than in many prog groups contenting themselves with taking up pompous archetypes. In short, immense with a whiff of SLEEPYTIME GORILLA MUSEUM. Finally with repeated listening I manage to find sound, well-made prog metal blood! In short, the Last one with...'The last stone' and the title of almost 10' taking up all the artifices of this new, modern group, with metal, explosive jazzy, today's sludge and a nervous, intuitive and fresh line; a little syrupy melody of THIN LIZZY on their Homeric slows, a little jazz-rock guitar solo in the SANTANA overboosted. A break and a hard riff, on FAITH NO MORE, ALICE IN CHAINS, ... in short in the prog time I can only recommend this firebrand signed QUANTUM which risks making you pass into another pleasant dimension. Listen to the last guitar solo of this last title and you will have confirmation of my writings! (4.5).
