TIME AND TIDE

Time and Tide came from Boston, USA and evolved out of the ashes of another band called Season's End.We don't know the exact line-up or style of this band, what we know is that they released three EP's and a full-length album around the mid-90's.As Time and Tide the line-up was Scott Bedard on guitar/lead vocals, Sean Blair on bass/backing vocals, Stephen Glowacki on drums/backing vocals and Steve O'Donnell on keyboards.The sole album of the band came out in 2004 as ''The water's edge'', an independent release.

This band couldn't draw itself from the mass of Heavy Prog groups emerging throughout the 00's, although musically they were quite good.They played an epic and powerful Progressive Rock akin to some Italian or German bands like MARATHON, LIVIT or TOP LEFT CORNER, featuring atmospheric soundscapes, sharp guitar riffing and dramatic, often high-pitch lead vocals, while their tracks contained also some intense orchestral keyboards.They did flirt also with a more metallic style of the DREAM THEATER/QUEENSRYCHE school of Prog with neurotic choruses, bombastic keyboards and passionate guitar runs, so I guess Prog Metal fans could also give this album a shot.They still held the American stylings with some AOR-oriented choruses and straight guitar/keyboard tunes, but soon the album will fall again in a Heavy Rock category with epic leanings.There are 70 minutes of music in here and 30 of them are dedicated to one sole piece, the 7-part epic ''Pilot'', which contains some more symphonic sections and dramatic tunes compared to the rest of the album.A fine attempt by the band, which never abandons the style of powerful and more atmospheric twists, featuring tight bridges between the separated movements and an overall quite dark atmosphere.

With no further material displayed it seems that they became part of music history soon after the album was recorded and released.Quasi-symphonic Heavy Prog with mascular guitar moves and grandiose keyboards, not extraordinary but quite good for what it is.Recommended.

Very well done epic progressive neo-metal in a style that crosses Dream Theater with Savatage and Marillion. Heavy melodic guitar chords and solos mixed with synth flourishes and solos with good drumming and bass to set the rhythm. The keyboards can set up a symphonic feel at times and the harmony singing at times will give this music an angelic yet powerful sound. The singer has a very good voice similar to other melodic power metal vocalists. The music is not really power metal however, with it's many tempo changes and symphonic touches. A very good neo progressive album with slight power metal leanings. A promising debut by this band!

Time and Tide are an extremely talented band with quite an impressive album here,titled The Waters Edge. The Music is very catchy and often times intense. I find myself humming baselines of these songs throughout the day. I'm not one of those type of people that can dissect the lyrics of a song the first time I hear it, and tell you what the full meaning of it is, but I do know that these songs are well written, deep, and somewhat introspective bringing you through a journey across the oceans and through life. It is obvious that the 4 musicians in the band love and appreciate good quality music, and it is reflected in the tracks they wrote for this disc. The comparisons, that these guys sound like a DreamTheatre-Marillion-Rush- type of band, are dead on! It's definately worth buying, and that's why I gave it 4 stars

I heard this Boston band about 4 years ago and have been waiting for this release. Need I say that I am VERY please. The songs are solid and are "songs" not soloing vehicles. (Although a bit more guitar lead lines would be nice) No one instrument ever overpowers but compliments the other with some nice inter-weaving lines. Bass and drums are constantly shackled together creating that big foundation for the guitar and keyboards to build upon. Even with Pilot clocking in at a total of 31+ minutes I still find myself listening to the tracks repeatedly. I give any prog nut (or bolt) to be hard pressed to hear something more refreshing at this TIME (and tide).
