Vougan biography
VOUGAN is a progressive metal band formed in 2005 by ex-DARK AVENGER members Acácio Carvalho (drums), G Zus (bass) and Hugo Santiago (guitars). They rounded out the line-up later that same year with another ex-DARK AVENGER bandmate Rafael Galvão (keyboards) and Carlos Zema (vocals).

The members of VOUGAN wanted to be free from trends, and write and perform music that was highly versatile and without creative limits. Therefore there are many elements in their music that sets them apart from "traditional" prog metal acts, such as progressive metal and prog rock,Brazilian music, classical music, power metal, heavy and melodic metal and even thrash.

After much rehearsal VOUGAN went into the studio to record their "Silent Souls" EP,which they self released in 2006.During this time keyboardist Rafael Galvão left the group and was replaced by Felipe K.

Before the recording of VOUGAN'S debut the band went through another line-up change, with Felipe K. being replaced by keyboardist Giordanno Martins and vocalist Izack Salvatierra replacing Carlos Zema, who had left the band to join the prog metal group OUTWORLD.With this current line-up VOUGAN recorded and released their full-length debut "Mind Exceeding" in 2007.

VOUGAN is highly recommended to all fans of diverse and original progressive metal!

— First review of this album —
3 stars Vougan is a prog metal band from Brazil with one album since now released in 2007 and named Mind exceeding. At first listen I was struck by the powerful voice of Izack Salvatierra and by the rough arrangements not far far from traditional power metal bands. They are more towards power metal but also combined in places elements from progressive metal aswell, that gives to the album a more complexity then usual power metal albums. Ok , the music is not grounbreaking or excellent, but most of the time pleasent. Nothing original, but played good with nice moods for ex:Ghosts and the parts of title track Mind Exceeding are above the rest of the pieces from this album, the last parts of the album II, III and IV of title track is instrumental and is the best track from here. So in comparation with other band from this subgenre , this brazilian brings nothing new or brilliant, is even weaker than other band from this country, but as whole they are ok. 3 star I think is fair for this album, nothing more nothing less.
