Io biography
Io is a band that plays experimental rock/metal that formed in 2006.
The Birmingham, UK-based band consists of Al Lawson on guitars and vocal, Stu Atkins on guitar, Tom Lawson on bass and Dave Wright on drums.

After impressing a music magazine with an explosive live show, the band would go on to record and self release a debut EP entitled "Itwaslostinthefirewestarted" in 2007. The band had brought in another bass player (James Black) at this time too to replace Lawson. The EP was received well among some critics.

In 2008, the band was back with more, this time a debut album, which featured four tracks taken from their debut EP and also two more tracks, Where We're Going We Don't Need Roads and Farewell, My Concubine. The album received positive reviews in Germany, France and Italy.

After touring the mainland of Europe to support the album, James Black made a departure from the band to pursue other musical endeavors. Steve Wood stepped into play bass for the band after Black's departure, once again making sure the band was still a 4 piece.

WHY THIS BAND IS IN THE ARCHIVES:

Io take influences from many prominent post rock and post metal bands to create their own blend of experimental metal/post rock/post metal. They were approved by the Prog Metal Team and are very highly recommended.

2 stars Debut album by UK post metal band Monolith. Instrumental music, combining repetitive simple sounds ,built on regular changes of soft mid tempo rhythmic guitar/drum pieces and faster and harder heavy metal guitar explosions.

Something between math-rock and post-metal, but far from progressive. Whenever repetitive musical pieces are part of the genre, just to make music listenable and not too boring, musicians must have some composition or musicianship abilities. Pity, but it is not a case with this album.

Simpler than average musical technique in combination with very few melodies doesn't work at all. At the end of the listening I was bored to death. Not everyone can survive monotonous repetitive sounds with regular changing of rhythm/sound level. Almost 50 minutes of music, but in fact it would be difficult to record even good single from that music material.

Avoid at any conditions.

Thanks to Petrovsk Mizinski for the artist addition.
