Neo-Prophet biography
NEO-PROPHET is a Neo-Prog band hailing from Southwest Belgium. Formed in 2005 by bassist/vocalist Hans Six, keyboardist Sjoerd Bruyneel, drummer Rudi Lins and guitarist Frank Debruyne. All four had been in previous bands and all had explored a wide variety of genres. Sjoerd and Hans had played together in the band Marsta Blasta, but when the two left that band, Sjoerd wanted to move in a heavy progressive/neo progressive direction and convinced Hans to join him in this endeavor.

Taking inspiration from bands such as PINK FLOYD, MARILLION, RUSH and GENESIS, the band recorded and released its first recording, a four-song EP titled "The Feeblemindedness of the Inept and the Ignorant" in 2006. Following on from this, NEO-PROPHET began recording their first full-length CD "Monsters" in 2006 and 2007. However, before releasing the CD, the band wanted to rerecord the CD with more professional production. The CD finally saw release in February of 2009. Following the release, drummer Rudi Lins left the band due to musical differences and was replaced by Wes Jacques.

On September 4, 2009, the band played its first concert in support of "Monsters" and the first live gig to feature the new drummer. They plan to perform at Symforce III and make other appearances all over Europe in support of their CD.

4 stars This Belgian formation is rooted in 2005 when Hans 'Mac' Six and Sjoerd 'CAP' Bruyneel stopped their activities in Marsta Blasta (in which they played both together for many years) and decided to found a new band named New- Prophet. This in order to realize their musical dreams to make melodic rock with progressive influences of the known Seventies and Eighties bands. While Hans switched from guitar to bass, drummer Rudi Lins and guitarist Stephane Landtmeters completed Neo Prophet. The first rehearsals and jam-sessions started in spring 2005 in the own "WAMP-studio" (Without Any Musical Pretension) and within a couple of weeks this already resulted in promising new songs. Due to different musical ideas Stephane decided to quit the band. But fortunately Frank Debruyne soon joined, on the same day after placing the advertisement on the internet, and turned out to be a gift of heaven. And a mutual gift, as Frank, as a big prog-rock fan, was also for a long time in search for a band playing his favorite kind of music.

A first try-out was given on the night of September 24th in Vlamertinge only a few months after Frank's entrance in the band. To answer the continuous demands for demo's and CD-material by fans and organizers and taken into account the empty wallet of the band, it was soon decided to try to record and produce an own record in their WAMP studio. Armed with only a cheap laptop, a stereo soundcard, one condenser mike, a free software Cubase program, but with a good pair of ears, a new challenge started early December 2005 for Mac: the recordings for the 5-track demo The Feeblemindedness Of The Inept And The Ignorant. Meanwhile the first gigs were booked, the first reviews appeared, all with positive feedback. Recordings of the many new compositions started between December 2006 and mid 2007 and from April 2007 the first results of the new recording were presented as the promo single An Introduction To Monsters with the songs The Blessed One and The Vast Machine. Finally late 2008 the debut CD entitled Monsters was released as an own production, it was received very well.

On their debut album Neo Prophet scout the borders between melodic rock, Art-rock, neo-progressive rock and symphonic rock with a very powerful and accessible sound. The first part of Monsters (tracks 1-5) contains songs that alternate between melodic rock and neo-prog, embellished with strong solos and good musical ideas. Like an exciting Savatage-like break and a fiery guitar solo in The Vast Machine, orchestral keyboards and a sensational synthesizer solo in (March Of The) Boneless and a swirling Hammond solo and jazzy saxophone in Man Without A Name. Listening to these songs bands like Seventies Saga and Styx and early Marillion come to my mind.

The second part of Monsters showcases more elaborate and varied compositions. First the wonderful ballad Song X with some heavy eruptions featuring splendid work on keyboards (Moog, Hammond) and guitar. Then the outstanding track 911 Pianoid that delivers an exciting mid-tempo with propulsive interplay between piano and guitar, a moving Rotherian guitar solo and a sensational break with a Saga-like duel between guitar and keyboards, goose bumps!

But the absolute highlight of this CD is the long and alternating final composition The New Prophet (6 parts, almost 21 minutes), you can enjoy:

a spectacular Moog synthesizer solo,

an Alex Lifeson inspired guitar solo,

an interlude with Fender Rhodes electric piano that sounds like 'Neo Prophet Goes Riders On The Storm',

a piece with exciting heavy guitar riffs and bombastic keyboards,

and in the end a compelling final part delivering majestic strings arrangements, sparkling piano and vocal harmonies, concluded with tender piano and a mellow church-organ sound, awesome!

After this promising debut CD the band went into some line-up changes and in 2015 finally released the second effort entitled T.I.M.E. I just checked their website (on July 2018), I notice that this second album is announced as their 'new album coming soon'. So I am afraid that Neo Prophet belongs to the past. Anyway, I have seen this very promising band twice (on Symforce III and during a triple concert with Yesterdays from Rumania and Dutch Knight Area in Amsterdam), Neo Prophet on stage is a real treat! So perhaps, as a kind of goodbye to the fans, the band will release a live CD? Thanks in advance!

3 stars This band from Belgium needed more then 5 years to come with a second offer, issued in 2015 name simply T.i.m.e.. This is another worthy album from them, maybe not as great as the debut, but still good from start to finish. From neo prog moments to more heavy prog passages, Neo Prophet has sense of melody all through out. From complex partswith nice keyboards and guitar moves to more melodic ones, this band did a great job, imagine something between Enchant and Arena and you get the picture. All pieces stands as good not a weak moment here, but with all that I prefer the first one more. 3 stars for sure, in places maybe 3,5. Nice art work .

4 stars The only album, entitled "Monsters" (2009) of the Belgian band NEO-PROPHET, presents a beautiful work that mixes symphonic/neo/heavy prog, with influence of RUSH, MARILLION, GENESIS and some thing of ECHOLYN.. However, in certain moments it adds that everything a dance-music almost techno-music rhythm and besides, orchestral arrangements . The result is not gotten to be brilliant is at least."a beautiful invitation to the ears", being a quite pleasant disk. I highlight, Track 2 "The Vast Machine" (with a syncopated riff in the midle section of the track), the Track 3 "(The March) of the Boneless" (with an orchestral inrtoduccion and the Keyboard solo "a lá " Rick Wakeman, the Track 4 "The Blessed One" (with the beautiful gonkenspiel arrangement), the Track 7 "911 Paranoid" and the Track 8 "The New Prophet" (with "Havaiann" steel guitar in the introducion and the "killer" duel to guitar/keyboards). My rate is 4 stars!!!

4 stars Unexpected great surprise

Neo Prophet is a progressive rock band comeing from Belgium, formed in 2005 they manage to release first album only this year named Monsters. I was very pleasent surprised about the music , the voice, everything is well done here, very good construncted and with catchy pieces. Whwn I first heared this album, I said - wow - they sound so much like Savatage, even the voice of Hans 'Mac' sometimes remind me of good old times when John Oliva ruled the metal scene. The arrangements, the atmosphere, how they think the keyboards elements remind me a lot of Savatage, but they are not a copy, Neo Prophet have enough good and excellent moments on this album to show us that they are not a copy of anyone. After some 5-6 spining , the result was for me a n excellent addition to my collection and I hope to anyone who gets this album, I can't recommended enough, belive me one of the best from 2009. The music is very strong, very heavy in places full of great and intelligent progressive arrangements who melted very nice with some stunning keyboards lines made by Sjoerd 'CAP' Bruyneel , I have to congratulated this man because is brilliant what he does here, very strong ideas and superb musicianship. What I like more is the album is very joyful , very energic, not a moment to respiro, great album. Every piece is a total winner, 911 Pianoid or Bonless are perfect examples of sheer brilancey of this very talented band . I was taken by surprise in a positive way by this belgian band, but in the end this album is awesome, one of most enjoyble album I've heared from 2009. 4 stars for sure, recommended, the ones who enjoy Savatage , but also with some neo prog elements added this is the answer. Well done guys!!!!!!

Thanks to The Doctor for the artist addition.
