Andrew Gorczyca biography
Andrew GORCZYCA was born August 14th 1963, and spent his childhood in Maryland. He soon got an interest in music, and learnt to play the guitar at an early age; and later on mastered the electric bass as well.

Although active in bands in his younger days he never got around to record and issue an album; and later on he was content with recording his many compositions at home on his 4-track. He might have had plans to do something more with all the material he wrote and recorded over the years; this we do not know - as Andrew passed away in August 2004, shortly before his 41st birthday.

His brother Chris became the caretaker of his musical writings and recordings, and decided to make a wholehearted attempt at recording his brothers work; and with quality musicians participating if possible. For nearly four years he contacted musicians, organized recordings and slowly but surely assembled material; and in the spring of 2008 an albums worth were finished, ready to be released.

At first this posthumous debut album was self-released; but in January 2009 US label Progrock Records picked up this production for full scale distribution - a worthy ending to this touching tale of brotherly love and a fitting end to a 4 year long quest.

3 stars "Reflections - An Act of Glass" is the debut album of Andrew Gorczyca, issued four years after he passed away. Four years of hard work by his brother Chris made the album a reality; with the help of many notable musicians in the world of progressive rock.

The end result is nothing exceptional in itself though. Mostly mellow and highly melodic; the most interesting songs on this venture sounds pretty similar to what Canadian act Rush made in the late 80's, and in particular on their album "Hold Your Fire". Gorczyca's compositions aren't as intricate as the Canadians work though; clearly more lightweight and pop-oriented; but it is by no means a bad album either.

Those looking for embellished art pop should do themselves a favour and check out this disc; the story behind the album certainly adds an extra emotional tinge to the proceedings and the musicianship is top notch. Don't expect anything truly astonishing though - it's a nice piece of work with several strong songs, but it's not a venture that will enter the history books - at least not for musical reasons alone.

Thanks to windhawk for the artist addition.
