Lazaro biography
Michel LAZARO is a pianist/keyboardist and composer from Toulouse, France. Having graduated from Music Academy International, Nancy (M.A.I), LAZARO meets Stephane DERIAU-REINE (THE FUSION PROJECT) in 1994, who, since then, would arrange his music and co-produce with him. In 1999, LAZARO concentrates on putting together some old compositions but it is not until 2006 that he works with DERIAU-REINE on the project called originally ''Demori''. Originally written in French by Marc Desangles, they decide to adapt it in English to appeal to a larger audience. At the same time, LAZARO works with song writer Mike Shannon and DERIAU-REINE arranges his music and artistic direction. The project takes the name ''Vision'', LAZARO invites Yan FAB for the vocals and DERIAU-REINE a number of guest musicians: Jordan RUDDESS (keys, DREAM THEATER), Uriah DUFFY (bass, WHITESNAKE), Philippe CHAYEB (bass, BILLY COBHAM), Damien SCHMITT (drums, JEAN-LUC PONTY), Jimi SAVAGE (guitars), Reda SAMBA (drums, LAURYN HILL), Mel GAYNOR (drums, SIMPLE MINDS), Jean Pierre CLAVERIE (guitars). The album is published through Musea Records in 2010 and LAZARO plans the Vision Tour for 2012.

A mix of progressive rock, melodic heavy metal and neo-prog is presented in the album (indeed, as quoted by Musea Records) and fans of melodic progressive metal might find references to bands such as SHADOW GALLERY and AYREON, albeit in a softer tone.

4 stars French composer and keyboardist Michel LAZARO has been an active musician since the early 90's, and has actively cooperated with Stephane Deriau-Reine since 1994. Towards the end of the 90's Lazaro started working on material for a planned solo album, closely collaborating with Deriau-Reine. The project evolved on an on-and-off basis until 2006, when the original French version was finalized. Songwriter Mike Shannon then helped translate the material into English, and Deriau-Reine called up some friends and acquaintances to record it. The end result was issued as "Vision" by Musea Records in the fall of 2010, on their Musea Parallele imprint.

"Vision" is a well made effort from the less intricate parts of the art rock realm. Pomp rock with a contemporary approach is my favored description, although sophisticated melodic hard rock might apply just as well. It kind of comes with the territory that recommendations to fans of Magnum and Queen will follow suit. I'd also surmise that aficionados of neo-progressive music might want to investigate this album as well.

Thanks to aapatsos for the artist addition.
