3 stars Second leg of DVD to overview the career of this mythical band. It ranges from "Whish You Were Here" to "The Division Bell" in terms of studio albums and ends on "PULSE". The version I have is the European version. Apparently it lasts for almost double the time than the Sout American version and also holds a bonus live track played by "Mostly Autumn" ("Comfortably Numb").

The same recipe has been used for this second part: three members from "Mostly Autumn" Heather Findley and Bryan Josh are giving their point of view about the music, while Ian Jennings provides a technical angle.

WYWH is accurately covered with a deep analysis of two of their most emotional songs ever written: SOYCD and WYWH. The live footage is again taken from a concert in Venice in 1989. The chapter about "Animals" is quite reductive, and half of it highlights the cover. A bit short, I'm afraid.

It is indicated how Roger starts to get control over the band; which will lead to "The Wall". No original footage of course but pictures again from their Venice concert (there are only poor quality images of one of their Earl's Court concert, as far as I have seen). Good overview and explanations about "Comfortably Numb" from Bryan Josh.

The elements of discord started to appear during the recording of the album and this will lead to the sacking of Richard Wright. A good chunk is also dedicated to the movie and the stress is put on Geldof's performance and the great complementarities of the animations and the music.

The disaster of "The Final Cut" (musically), the little input from David, the absence of Rick (a founding member) is shortly discussed. Some short Gilmour interview about the fact that most of the songs featured on TFC were not good enough to appear on "The Wall" and he saw no reasons to have them back again on another album. TFC was a Roger affair and no more.

To provide some balance, the sequence about "AMLOR" shows a short footage of Roger who mentioned that there were little chances that the band would be ever together again. The review of the album is probably too positive but the interesting part covers the live show and how this tour was considered and put in place. A total Gilmour affair.

"The Division Bell" since it is the last Floyd album (to date?) is the occasion to make the conclusions about this great band and how they have impacted the music industry for about thirty years.

As the first part (covering the years 67 through 74) this DVD is a decent attempt to describe Floyd's work. There are much less interviews from the band members on this second part (only two) but tensions were so high during this period than it is understandable.

Anyway, a good tool for newbies, more than for devoted fans. Three stars.

1 stars My wife Savitri gave me as a birthday present this DVD and its companion. I love her so much but she failed miserabily. It sucks very hard. The reviews are not better than the ones you can find in Amazon or Allmusic, only becoming worst by the unnecessary comments by then-Mostly Autumn's membe ... (read more)

2 stars BEWARE! ?. Of unsprupulous others who make DVD documentaries with 'INDEPENDENT EDITORIAL CONTROL'. They contain the same old clips seen in legitimate 'docos' interspersed with 'nobody' talkiing heads and cover bands playing floyd numbers because the makers of these DVD's have no legal access to act ...
