Silent Call biography
Founded in Stockholm, Sweden in 2006 - Disbanded in 2017

SILENT CALL are a Swedish progressive metal band formed in 2006,but the seeds were planted in the early 90's when founding members Daniel Ekholm (guitars) and Patrik Ulfström (keyboards) met through a friend. For quite awhile they played together in a local heavy metal band called SATINS 'N' LACE.

Deciding to form a progressive metal band, the duo recruited drummer Mikael Kvist.Calling themselves SILENT CALL,the band began writing original material, and also wanted to pay special attention to the production and recording of their music.Bassist Tobbe Moen soon joined the group, and SILENT CALL began searching for a vocalist.

Mikael Kvist remembered a vocalist he worked with in the past,ex-SEVENTH WONDER vocalist Andi Kravljaca. The two had played together in the band ELSESPHERE.Andi audtioned for the group and blew the band away.SILENT CALL found their vocalist.

The band recorded a 4-song demo called "Divided",which was released in 2007.The demo was very well received and SILENT CALL were signed with the British label Escape Music. The band released their debut album,"Creations from a Chosen Path" in 2008.

Highly recommended to all progressive metal fans!

Silent Call Progressive Metal

3 stars Silent Call is a Progressive Metal band from Stockholm, Sweden that was founded in 2006 and supposedly disbanded in 2017. Yet, here they are with their 4th full-length studio album "Windows", released in October of 2019. The band was founded by Daniel Ekholm (guitar) and Patrick Ulfstrom (keyboards). They later recruited Mikael Kvist (drums), Tobbe Moen (bass) and finally, newcomer to this album, Goran Nystrom (vocals). The album has 13 tracks and comes in at over 70 minutes total. "Windows" is was actually finished in 2016 and is supposedly going to be their last.

The tracks on the album are all around the 4 ? 5 minute mark with only the last track surpassing the 6 minute mark. The music is definitely heavy metal, but with the addition of the keyboards, there is a strong, almost symphonic metal, sound to the album, that sound being completely produced by the synths. Goran's vocals pretty much fit the bill, and at times almost slips into a deep, almost expressive sound, approaching an operatic feel at times, but usually quite full and deep. The first three tracks are pretty typical sounding metal with heavy keyboards, but only small doses of progressive sound. "Shifting Shape" is a more emotional and mellower track, not bad, but nothing spectacular or memorable. "Hermetic" has a nice piano solo followed by a synth solo in the instrumental break, but they go by too quickly and then slips back into the simple formula again. "Invisible" attempts to become a little more progressive but doesn't quite hit the mark. Other than this, the music follows a very traditional pattern; intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, instrumental break (usually guitar solo), verse, chorus, end, all with thick synth washes and solid guitar riffs.

The album overall is quite samey, nothing much changes or sticks out. It reminds me more of the minor Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, and Black Sabbath albums produced in the 80s and 90s, a lot of heaviness, an attempt to be relevant, but, in the end, producing nothing really that interesting. The album is just your average heavy metal with lots of synth, and that's about it.

3 stars Silent Call second album from 2010 named simply Greed is on same level as preecesor, not better not weaker eeither, at least for my ears. Same line up featuring vocalist Andi Kravljaca ex Seventh Wonder and Elsephere, is ok for this kind of music, also the music is ok but nothing realy excellent, but pleasent most of the time. I've wanted the music to be more elaborated like Sewenth Wonder or Esephere for ex, only in some parts the arrangements are more then ok with some great moments, but overall is only good and nothing more. As I said same as previous one in any aspect, musicianship manner of composing all, no remarcable winning points here on their second album over the first one. Not a piece is weak for sure but aswell not one is in front to be the best, a well balanced album but that it, not realy fantastic. 3 stars is best I can give to Greed, good progressive metal, but not particulary the one I'm intrested every day, I mean without being quite complex and with many changes and all the ingredients I like on this kind of music, still pleanr and enjoyble from time to time.

3 stars Silent Call is a young progressive metal band from Sweden releasing a single album so far in 2008 named Creations from achosen path. I was not very impressed about this album, the music is melodic prog metal concentrated a lot on vocal arrangements, who are very good, but the instrumental passages are usual, nothing over the top, almost dull and unintrsting in places but well executed. The band was formed around two great musicians from this field Mikael Kvist on drums and Andi Kravljaca on vocals, both were members in the excellent band Elsesphere and Andi was aswell the vocalist on first album of Seventh Wonder prog metal band from Sweden. The music is not elaborated as I wanted to sound if I put a prog metal album in my CD player, the pieces are all under 6 min, with one exception one track and even that one is a balad. So, a good album overall but lacking in great ideas and falls completly in the category of hundred bands that plays prog metal these years. Hardly 3 stars and almost forgetable.
