Saga biography
Portuguese project SAGA was the creative vehicle of composer and musician João Luis Tinoco. Under his leadership some of the finest musicians in Portugal at the time gave realized his thematic oriented production revolving around issues such as war and the use of atomic weapons. While crafted with a minute attention to detail, the end result didn't strike a nerve with the mainstream audience when "Homo Sapiens" was released in 1976, and Tinoco left the realm of the recording artists soon after to concentrate on songwriting.

5 stars Do not hesitate to say that this is the best prog record we've ever made in Portugal. It's one of those works of genius that I never tire of hearing due to the strength of the music and the lyrics. The album opens with " 6º DIA ," perhaps one of the strongest themes of the entire album, the climax (usual in prog rock) appears at 4:04 with the preparation of an environment that leads to the synthesizer solo played by Tinoco. The second theme "FILIUS DOMINI, FILIUS HOMINIS" very poetic and authored by Tinoco, has an intervention of the voice of Fernando Girão and the particularity of the final score does not end in "tonic" but in a range of "fourth interval" when it comes "ainda não voas". Hiroshima is the third theme and is an invitation to reflection , echo memories that led to the tragedy of Hiroshima and awareness of drama resulting nuclear explosion . "CANTIGA DE IMIGO" is the revelation of the conflicts that exist between ourselves, our greatest enemy is ourselves . "INVASÂO" is another strong piece of this album with poem by José Gomes Ferreira , where metaphors are a constant . The piece "GUERRA" shows us clearly that the "civilized man" has nothing civilized to make the comparison with the animals, the animals do not make war , kill just to survive , the man is a beast that makes war and dirty their hands with the blood of their peers . "CARTA" is a monologue addressed to God and ending forcefully . "NO 20º ANIVERSÁRIO DA MORTE DO POETA" has a musical input very characteristic of progressive rock , the letter speaks of the boldness of the poet (Tinoco) to question the world around us. "DUNAS" at 1:15 is one of the most beautiful musical moments with the intervention of Rão Kyao's sax . A delight . 5 *****
