COLLAPSE is from Grenoble, France and formed in 2011 as a trio: Sebastien PIERRON (vocal, guitar), Alexis OSSENI (bass) and Anthony BARRUEL (drums). ''The Fall'' is their third release after ''B sides'' in 2013 and their self-titled album in 2011. In this latest album, the band has some guest musicians on some songs.

This instrumental music is influenced by the post-rock genre and bands like PORCUPINE TREE, ARCHIVE and MOGWAI. From their first album, the band has developed a heavier sound, which results in some darker atmosphere. The band has succeeded to create some interesting experimental prog rock music that has something in common with a movie soundtrack, because of the different level of ambience throughout their songs.

Review by alainPP

4 stars COLLAPSE is this French group that does heavy prog chamber music! A music between psyche, post-rock and heavy prog, with a disconcerting sweetness, influenced by the post-rock genre and groups like PORCUPINE TREE, ARCHIVE and MOGWAI. I will add the KING CRIMSON dinos of course in view of this heavy, unhealthy, avant-garde sound that they were able to breathe into the musical world. 'ἈNÁΓKH' is their latest baby, unpronounceable and having taken care of PA badly!

'Spiral Down' post-doom, 'Anima Anceps' more soaring and hypnotic as the post can be and 'Yōkai' in a porcupine and crimsonian vein imprint a cinematic sound, you know what could go on film strip, with a heavier, gripping sound, more in the Cadbury spirit. '2 = 8' arrives as a dark/intimate interlude, a musical moment to meditate on. The voices in various languages, yes it's not just French, add to the solemn and introspective character. 'Belle De Nuit' and 'Ljómi' return to this universe-country where the music is elaborate, changing and expressive, nervous with this powerful riff; enough not to take it as 'chamber music' in the evening; much more like a moment of introspection, brief, singular and hypnotic. 'Lotus' arrives as a second interlude, gripping muffled bass, ethereal notes, for a moment I think back to this PINK FLOYD intro with this roaring bass; nervous little title well to wake up the synapsal meanders. 'Ἀνάγκη' at the country start then wandering on arid lands where the wind turns into a blizzard and 'Mỹ Hoa with a more marked post-rock sound, like an ice cathedral.

COLLAPSE small group will become big; a 4th album which struck me for its cover, yes I still stop at this detail; convolutions, airy, dark, heavy, enlightened musical tracks, a sound outside the system which is not to displease. (To listen loud one night)

Thanks to andy webb for the artist addition. and to aapatsos for the last updates
