Progressive Biography
I'm passionate about music. I bought my first album in 1971 (Led Zeppelin IV) at the age of ten, and haven't stopped.
I grew up in the late sixties and early seventies, and listened to whatever I could. GENESIS, YES, BLACK SABBATH, LED ZEPPELIN, DEEP PURPLE, all the usual suspects, supplemented by whatever else I could find. New Zealand did not receive copies of many non-British or American records, so I remained ignorant of the wealth of progressive music from other parts of the world until recently. In the eighties I embraced post-punk, new wave and all the rest; in the nineties I found myself enjoying the so-called intellectual end of the dance music scene, acts like THE ORB, APHEX TWIN, AUTECHRE and ORBITAL. I still enjoy electronic music of all types. More recently I've delved into progressive metal, some avant-garde and other varieties of new prog. At heart, though, I'm still in love with symphonic prog.
Outside music I'm a retired senior lecturer in Geography. I run an award-wining mapmaking business. And, as a hobby, I write fantasy novels. I have had six published in Australia by HarperCollins, and in the USA and UK (by Orbit). I write epic fantasy in the Tolkien style.
I'll give anything a listen.
